Drawing is the foundation of my work, which can develop into site-specific animation, sculpture, printmaking and large-scale drawings. My work, focusing on human and animal subjects can be humorous and desolate simultaneously. I look at the relationships between humans and nature, researching in natural history museums and looking at animals interacting within an urban setting. Jean Jacques Rousseau?s theories on utopias intrigue me, especially the three stages he suggests we go through; firstly free individuals, mostly solitary, living in harmony along with nature, then moving to a form of mixed existence with conflicting ideas on freedom and our natural selves, alongside the benefit of community, but finishing up, as Huxley describes in his book Brave New World, in a place which is purely social.
