Jane Oldfield makes work about flying - mainly painting on a variety of surfaces, but also collaging her own photographs taken from planes. Jane's experience, particularly learning to fly gliders, has made her want to play with the up and down, swinging or eliminating the horizon. Also it has emphasised the importance of air as a medium for light and colour.
Flying has always been an obsession for mankind. Many folk tales and most religions reference flying. But, although we have only conquered flight in the last 100 years, it has already become mundane. Jane tries to rediscover our excitement at being able to fly.
Jane was brought up
in Yorkshire and now lives in London. She has exhibited in Beijing, Spain and Italy as well as London, Hull and Manchester.
She has just completed a residency at Matt Roberts Gallery in Vyner St, Hackney.(see the book of the first ALAS residency at the Matt Roberts Gallery - This is Not the Gallery, published by Blurb)
